For this festive exchange, artists and urban gardeners Bill Basquin, Johunna Grayson, and Greta Snider and Exploratorium staff serve up light refreshments and a bit of seed swap history in The Dearborn Community Garden, an oasis in the middle of the Mission District located on a quiet street about two blocks northeast of Dolores Park, adjacent to 43-49 Dearborn Street. It was formerly an employee parking lot for the PepsiCo bottling plant situated at the southwest corner of 17th and Valencia Streets.

Sound Artist Brenda Hutchinson will lead a bell ringing at the time of sunset. She will bring small bells to share - bring a small bell as well if you have one!

If you bring seeds or rooted cuttings to share, be sure to label them. Visitors will want to know where and what year the seeds were collected, common or Latin name of the plant, and the flower color if the plant is grown for blooms.
Join the fun and take home some seeds! If you don’t have any to swap, don’t worry; we’ll have seeds to give away.
